Clit Bae #15 We-Vibe Tango X

So the time has officially come, my friends. Please gather around.

I often get nostalgic when I think about the We-Vibe Tango. I still remember the day I walked into a random sex shop, moseyed over to the luxury sex toy area, and marveled at the We-Vibe Tango and all its rumbly goodness. Not too long before then, I had just entered the wonderful world of sex toys and was in search of something that not only gave me orgasms but spoke to my spirit in a special way. I’m not being dramatic here. The Tango was one of the first sex toys that helped me along my pleasure-seeking journey when it came to figuring out what type of sex toys I liked.

With the exception of another bullet-style vibrator, the We-Vibe Tango ignited what is now my obsession for bullet-style vibrators. So much so, that I dedicated a whole review series covering just that. It also led me to create a sex blog–go figure.

Design and Materials

The We-Vibe Tango X is a bullet-style vibrator made of body-safe silicone and Abs plastic that is both Phthalates and BPA free. It’s rechargeable via USB/Magnetic connection, is completely waterproof, has a travel lock feature, and comes with a satin storage bag and a sachet of Pjur Lubricant. Additionally, it also comes with 7 modes (patterns) with 8 intensity levels and is available in two colors: Cherry Red and Midnight Blue.

Please Note: Avoid using silicone-based lubricants with this vibe, as it can deteriorate the silicone handle, voiding all warranties.

Do We Go Forward or Backward?

It would be hard to talk about the Tango X without talking about its predecessor, the Tango. For one, I’ve been using the Tango for a couple years now, and have often thought about the countless ways We-Vibe could improve it. Looking at the Tango X now, I can say without a doubt that they took the Tango back to the lab and really took their time on making their newest clit toy a decade later after the original Tango made its first debut onto the market. Sometimes we need to go backward before we move forward. I also feel like talking about some of the main issues with the Tango could shed a lot of light on why the Tango X is a big deal.

The Tango didn’t come without its problems which didn’t rear their ugly heads until a couple weeks or so into using it. The immediate issue, however, was the lack of magnetic connectivity when it came to charging the Tango. It was practically non-existent and I would have to angle it in odd ways to get to maintain the chargers connection long enough to get a full charge. To remedy this, I started charging my Tango with the We-Vibe Thrill charger since it had the same specs as the tango charger and allowed it to stand on the magnetic plates and charged it more efficiently. And if you don’t know what the We-Vibe Thrill is or why you may have never heard of it, it’s essentially a vibrator We-Vibe would like everyone to forget they ever created. But more on that at another time.

Two other issues were the battery life and the memory function. The battery life was okay when I first got the Tango. That soon went downhill when I was a couple months in and noticed that it would die on me mid-session. Usually, I would be able to get at least two sessions out of it. That turned into 1 and a half, then 1 because I knew if I didn’t charge it after using it, it would die on me the next time I used it for sure. It would always die right before I was about to orgasm. And I was starting to take it personally. I couldn’t blame the Tango completely, however. I did use it quite often. Multiple times a day sometimes and multiple times a week. I’m not sure if it was a combination of frequent use, frequent charging, and a small battery, that led to what I think was a depleted battery capacity over time. It happens with all devices. I think I was more offended since I really liked this device though.

I also didn’t care for it remembering the last function I used since I wouldn’t remember it was set to the fourth intensity–even though I always finished at the fourth intensity, and would startle myself every time I turned it back on. It may sound like I’m complaining, but the devil is really in the details here.

Now to the Future (In Use)

The Tango X by We-Vibe isn’t just a new and improved version of the Tango, it’s living up to the We-Vibe brand’s name for being a sex toy of luxury with a modern flare. The main thing that has changed aesthetic-wise is the silicone handle. Not only does it make the Tango X easier to hold, but it also’s smooth to the touch and I like how the buttons are easy to distinguish from one another. It features a three-button operation with a lipstick-style tapered tip for pin-point stimulation. I’m also digging the color options. Both the Midnight Blue and Cherry Red are vibrant and eye-catching.

I also wanted to note that while the handle or top part of the Tango X is larger in diameter compared to the original Tango, the lower part/shaft/tip is the same size as the original Tango. So you know what that means…vibrating dildos all around! Yes, the Tango X is compatible with dildos and butt plugs that allow for a bullet vibe to be inserted into its cavity. I’m actually happy they kept the same detentions for the new Tango. Changing the dimensions on this to make it any bigger would have taken a huge chunk of its versatility with it.

The thing that stuck out to me the most when I first saw the Tango X on Instagram, was its plus and minus buttons. I thought the little squiggly line between the two buttons was simply for aesthetic purposes until I started playing around with them and realized it was the mode button that changes the vibration patterns. And that’s when I realized that the intensity of each pattern can be customized. I thought to myself “Damn, We-Vibe is really pulling all the stops on this one.”

The Vibrations

Rumbly. That’s it. *Drops mic* *Throws hands up* *Walks away*

There isn’t an ounce of buzz with the Tango X. The vibrations are rumbly, consistent, and my clit is in love. The vibrations don’t jump or skip. Even with the patterns. There are 7 modes (patterns) with 8 intensity levels. I only use the Vibrate mode which delivers continuous vibrations with no interruption. I like to edge with the patterns, but they aren’t my go-to since patterns just aren’t my thing. As for the intensities, I’m gonna try my best to articulate this. The 8 intensities (to me) feel like the lower and higher versions of the 4 intensities from the original Tango. Meaning each of the original 4 intensities from the original Tango now has a higher and lower version of themselves with the 8 intensities in the Tango X.

Don’t get me wrong, the vibrations are coming with the same energy as the original Tango. No debate on that. It is just powerful with a little more oomph to it. I will say that I do dial it all the way up to the eighth intensity to orgasm, but the fact that I can do that multiple times without worrying about the battery dying is a huge plus for me.

I’m loving the plus and minus buttons as well. This might have a lot to do with the fact that I wish more bullet-style vibes came with a 2-button operation, but this one comes with three. Not only can you customize the intensities of the vibration modes, you can dial it up or dial it back, and each mode has its own space, meaning your not cycling into patterns or vibration. This also gives a whopping *Uses me, calculator, because my math skills suck*– 56 combinations to play with. If you like me, you might not play with them all, but still happy you have them.

I know the three-button operation might be a turn-off for some since one-button operated vibrators are usually the easiest to use, but imagine cycling through 56 vibration functions with one button. That would be a no for me.

Trying to squeeze every ounce of brain juice into this review, the memory function has been thrown out of the window on the Tango X. The funny thing about the original Tango was that it doesn’t round-robin after cycling through all of the vibration modes and patterns, It turns off. I say that’s funny because it remembers the last vibration function you used when you turned it on. I don’t like that. The original Tango’s vibrations are really strong, so I usually would start with the first intensity before orgasming with the fourth.  With the Tango X, every time you turn it one, it starts at the vibrate mode of the first intensity. Me likey a lotty.

We-Connect App

So, let’s talk about the We-Connect app, how it’s not compatible with the We-Vibe Tango X, and how confused that makes me. A while back when I was reviewing the We-Vibe Gala, I remember going into a blind rage at how useless the app was to devices that were not considered to be hands-free. I thought to myself, “What’s the point of being able to control my vibrator with my phone if I have to HOLD my VIBRATOR to my BODY-ODY to get stimulation from said device?

Maybe that’s my fault. I know not everyone uses bullet-style vibes the same way I like to use mine: placed on my clit with my legs closed around it. I feel however since We-Vibe puts the damn feature on all their other devices, why not this one? I was expecting to see the We-Connect added in the features section and was actually surprised not to see it. Seeing as this vibe has the potential for hands-free use. I would have loved to able to control it with my phone. I’m actually disappointed, to be honest.

Battery Life

One of the biggest issues as mentioned previously with the Tango was the battery life. With the We-Vibe Tango X however, that is now a worry of the past. Not only do I get multiple sessions out of it, but I also don’t have to run to the charger after using it just once. I can get about 4 20-minute sessions out of it, but that depends on if I’m using it on its highest intensities. The only thing I don’t care for with regards to the battery is that little light that’s supposed to tell you when the battery is running low. It’s also on the original Tango and it’s just as annoying. What would have been cool was if the We-Connect app was utilized with the Tango X to notify me when I needed to charge my vibe instead of that light indicator. Just a thought.

Is it quiet?

If we’re comparing apples to apples, the Tango X is a smidgen quieter than the Tango. It’s actually one of the reasons why I loved the Tango in the first place when I bought it almost 7 years ago. It’s super quiet. The same thing goes for the Tango X. Now I wouldn’t go as far as to call it whisper quiet. But it is definitely quieter than a good amount of the vibrators I own. And I would dare to call it one of the quietest vibrators I have ever used.

Travel lock

This is one feature I am extremely thrilled about. You don’t see bullet vibes with travel locks very often and We-Vibe got it more than right on this one. It’s easy to activate and deactivate without turning the Tango X on. Simply press and hold both the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons at the same time until you get two buzzes. No pressing of the minus button to activate then the plus button to deactivate. One simple move does it both. Everyone has their reason why they would like a travel lock on their sex toy, but it’s the charging my sex toy and throwing it in my bag without a care in the world or fear that it will turn on while I’m on the way to my boo’s house for me.

Final Thoughts

I know exactly what you’re about to ask. Should I get it? Yes. What if I already have the–Yes. Get it. The same great vibrations paired with new features fit for the modern times we’re in isn’t just about getting a vibrator with some upgrades. If you’re new to the We-Vibe Tango, you’re going to love how powerful it is, that’s easy to use, and that it has a travel lock. If you already own a Tango, the travel lock and, improved battery, and customizable vibration modes. I have no reservations about recommending it and it has earned a spot in my nightstand drawer next to its predecessor.
