The Magic Wand Rechargeable is everything I imagined it would be.
If I said I wasn’t as giddy as a school girl on a Friday night when I got my hands on the Magic Wand Rechargeable, I would be telling a bold faced lie. The Magic Wand (formerly known as the Hitachi Magic Wand) is the wand of all wands! “The Cadillac of vibrators”. Like this is the wand that all the other wands want to be when they grow up. That last part might be an over statement. But not really.
I don’t know where exactly to start on the back story of why the Magic Wand is such a big deal in the sex toy industry. But I don’t feel as though I would be doing this review right without a decent history lesson. The original product (its predecessor, the Hitachi Magic Wand) was the best invention ever made. Like the best invention since sliced bread. It was originally used back in the 1970’s (made available to the public April 1968) as a massager to relive aching muscles with its strong and ridiculously rumbly vibrations. By word of mouth, many women discovered that the powerful vibrations felt amazing on other parts of their bodies. Mostly on their clits. Soon after, women were everywhere were having amazing orgasms.
Women everywhere where thrilled. Hitachi on the other hand, not so much. When they invented the Magic Wand, they did not make it for purpose of sexual pleasure and wanted nothing to do with such associations to their product and most importantly, their brand. In 2013, Hitachi decided to pull the plug on the production of the Magic Wand and for a second, all hope for mind-blowing orgasms was shot into the abyss as we knew it. When suddenly, Vibratex persuaded Hitachi to continue to manufacturing the vibrator and do some re-branding, thus saving the Magic Wand. So shout out to Vibratex for holdin’ it down. You the real MVP.
Now we can jump back in to the present day. The Year 2017. And the Original Magic Wands successor. The new and improved Magic Wand Rechargeable. I always had dreams about how the Magic Wand Rechargeable and I would meet. Wand head to clit, I imagined it would be beautiful and very rumbly. I imagined having beautiful, mind-blowing orgasms and dubbing this the best toy to have ever touched my clit. My expectations where met in terms of what I was expecting to get out of a vibrator that was supposed to be a new and improved version of another, somewhat outdated vibrator, that just didn’t seem to fit with the times. I was expecting something rechargeable and either just as powerful as the original or more powerful than the original. And those were my minimum requirements. My absolute bare minimum. I am very satisfied there. So let’s talk about everything else.
The Good
I want to first start off by staying that the only user experience that I have ever had with the Original Magic Wand was whenever I would (and still occasionally do) go into a sex shop and turn one to feel the rumbly vibrations on my hand. I had heard about the Original Magic Wand for years but never bothered to look into buying one because 1. I don’t care for finding outlets to plug things into. Especially sex toys. 2. It was way too loud and I found that it actually got louder the older it got. And you wanna know how I know this? Because every sex shop that I have been to that as an old Original Magic Wand as their display sounds ten times louder than it did when it was new. It’s a given as vibrators get older, the vibrations will get louder, but if I wanted to let everyone in my house know I was masturbating, I would just leave my door wide open and watch my porn on speaker with no headphones. That would be way more cost effective. And before anyone thinks I’m trying to bash the Original Magic Wand, relax. I am simply saying if you don’t live alone or you don’t want to call attention to yourself when trying to masturbate, it may not be a good idea to purchase a vibrator that sounds like a power tool. Just saying.
Right off the bat, the immediate plus with the Magic Wand Rechargeable was no cord. I did however, have to find an outlet to charge it ASAP as it showed up DOA. But after 3 hours of charging it, it was good to go. There is a plug-and-play option, meaning you can use it while it’s plugged in so you don’t have to wait for it to come to a complete charge in order to use it. However, using it while it is connected will not simultaneously charge the unit. It must be completely turned off for that to be charged. It’s a nice option to have in the case it dies on you during a session, but may serve as inconvenience if you don’t have any nearby outlets where plan to use it. The Magic Wand Rechargeable spoiled me in a way its predecessor would have never been able to. Intensities. When it comes to vibrators, I need more than just “Low and High” or “High and really high” intensity settings. Especially when trying to use just one toy to get off with. I need something I can start with on a low setting and build my way up. Two intensities just won’t do it for me. By the time I would be ready to use the highest intensity on the Original Magic Wand, my clit and labia would most likely be numb with annoyance and over stimulation.
The Design
While I never really had any particular design or aesthetic preference of what I thought the Original Magic Wand’s Successor should look like, I will say that whoever dreamed this up did a damn good job. This thing looks like it’s from the future. As for materials the most noticeable improvement was the buttons (me likely) and that nice, big silicone head, making it completely body-safe and easily shareable between users. No more porous vinyl head. You can still use a dental damn or cover it with a condom for easy clean up if you’d like, but a baby wipe, wash cloth with soap and water, or your favorite toy cleaner works perfectly fine with cleaning the unit since you can’t immerse it in water. It is not waterproof or water resistant.
The design is very similar to the Original Magic Wand, which in my opinion was way ahead of its time in terms of ergonomic design. It’s comfortable to hold in the hand but it is a bit heavy. That could be from the massive motor and battery it has packed in it because unless you using this everyday ten times a day, you’re probably not going to be running to the charger too often. Then again, how many uses you get out of it on a full charge is dependent on how long it takes you to cum. Or how you use it. I don’t believe in things that claim to make you cum in a certain amount of time and in record speeds. How the hell do you know my personal record speed? You see, the Magic Wand Rechargeable doesn’t really make any claims aside from being powerful, and reliable. As for that sound thing I was talking about earlier, this thing is pretty darn quiet. You still hear it but it is no comparison to the Original Magic Wand. It’s much quieter.
In Use
The first thing I thoroughly enjoyed was the turning this baby on and off. Very simple buttons, nothing complicated. Vibratex has many opportunities to over complicate the buttons and kill the user experience with alone. But they kept it simple all the way. I also like that there is one designated button for the each function: On/Off, Intensities, and Patterns.
I’m going to talk about the vibration patterns first so I don’t have talk about them again. I usually don’t like talking about vibration patterns because I often find them to be useless to me. To someone else, they are crucial to them achieving orgasm. To me, I only use them if they are really good and are not egregious. And you know what I’m talking about. Those patterns that aren’t well thought out and there’s no way in hell they can make anyone cum. I never anticipate touching a toy with 8 million vibration patterns unless it has 3 intensity settings. With all that being said, these 4 settings were pretty useful. And well thought out. My favorite one number 4, where it goes from a low intensity then jumps to a high intensity. The one with the short pauses in between make jump every time it pauses because vibrations are so powerful.
As a woman with a clit of steel, I love powerful shit. This my friend, is very powerful. However even with more intensities, I still need a starter toy in order before using it or using it in a way to help get me aroused. Let me explain. When using the Magic Wand Rechargeable, the wand head is very wide. It’s obviously not ideal for someone who is looking for pin-point stimulation, like a bullet vibrator. The vibrations are rumbly and when placing the toy on my clit, they become muted and it feels like a rapid thudding. Especially when trying to build momentum.
If you have ever put a vibrator on your clit when you weren’t aroused then you may know what I’m talking about. It can be a bit unpleasant because you may not be aroused enough to orgasm from the stimulation. That was my problem. If I’m already turned on, looking for a quick orgasm, this got the job done. But if I was looking to take my time, the lowest intensity was just too darn powerful. Not a bad at all. It just has to be properly focused on the right spot. And since I don’t have an attachment at the moment, I decided to play around with pressure.
Placing the wand on my clit but not allowing it to be completely pressed up against my clit worked and still works out really well. I do plan to invest in a nozzle tip attachment pretty soon and will report back on that once I do. I also found that the neck was not as flexible as the Original Magic Wand, which didn’t bother me too much. After I build my momentum, I then I go on to the second intensity and usually don’t make it past the fourth intensity. Moaning, quivering, lip biting, shaking, squirting, and orgasms. Did I forget anything? There’s a reason The Magic Wand is so popular. Believe the hype. It’s real.
When it boils down to it, would I recommend the Magic Wand Rechargeable to you? Yes. It’s still holds true what its predecessor was known for: power and reliability. Would I tell you to get it if you don’t like sex toys that are not water proof? No. As this should be nowhere near water. If you already have a wand massager that plugs in, would I tell you to get it? Yes. Comparing to the Original Magic Wand, These two products are a night and day difference. While the price point is drastically different, I do feel although you get a nice bag for your buck with more intensity and pattern settings. And the plug-and-play option is great for those who may not always have time charge their Magic Wand, but want something that’s both powerful and quiet.
