When I first got my hands on the first Womanizer Starlet, I felt as though I had just seen the trailer to a really exciting movie. Or like one of those samples you get from Costco’s that makes you want to buy the whole thing of whatever they’re. Point is, it left me wondering, “Where’s the rest of it?” Then came the Womanizer Starlet 2, all new and improved with a 2-button operation and lengthier body. I posed a question to myself, “What could they have possibly done with this one to make it different from the last one?”. Short Answer: Nothing. What they did instead was enhance the concept of the Original Starlet. So, let’s all take a ride of the Tiffy train to see if those enhancements made for a better sex toy.
Design and Materials
Both of the Womanizer Starlets have the same features with some slight variations. Both are made of ABS Plastic and features a silicone nozzle/head which is removable for easy cleaning, has 4 levels of intensities, and is rechargeable. The main differences are that the Starlet 1 has a 1-button function where the Starlet 2 has a 2-button function. The Original Starlet utilizes a micro-USB for charging whereas the Starlet 2 uses magnetic connection which seems to be becoming an industry standard with most sex toys I see rolling out onto the market.
The Womanizer Starlet comes in 3 colors: White, Purple, and Fuchsia. The Womanizer Starlet 2 comes in 2 colors: Coral and Sapphire Blue.
The Original Womanizer Starlet
I feel like the Womanizer Starlet was meant to be a compact device that delivers the same Pulse Air Technology as the rest of the Womanizer series. Just in a cutesier smaller and more economical package. Unfortunately for me, it hit some sour notes. For one, it’s not cheap by any means at 79 bucks and has this cheap-looking aesthetic to it that makes it look as though Womanizer rushed to put it together. I have never been so underwhelmed by the aesthetics of a sex toy thus far, and this one takes the cake. I got mine in color white, and I have to say that the color just adds to the cheapness of it. Maybe I was expecting too much, but with the Starlet, I was really counting on them to show us and their competition how it’s done.
At the time when the Original Starlet came onto the scene, it was Womanizer’s cheapest model, which gave those who wanted to experience its sensations but not the hefty price tag that came along with the other models, a meeting in the middle if you will. Unfortunate, I felt as though this was a rip-off. I literally felt as though I had gotten a sample of a sex toy rather than the whole enchilada. Like those pillow packs of hair conditioner that are less than one ounce. Yea, no.
The aesthetics of the toy wasn’t the only thing that annoyed me. This model imparticular is my least favorite because of how I have to hold it when I’m using it. I have quite large yet dainty hands for a woman and find myself getting cramps in my hand when holding it for too long. I didn’t like that you can’t dial the intensities back and would have been able to forgive that if the handle was just a little bit longer.
The upside to the Original Starlet was a couple things: The size of it is small enough to fit practically anywhere, the white color is almost effortless to clean, the nozzle is removable, and the on/off button is a press and hold, so it doesn’t turn on as soon as the button is pressed. In addition to wanting some length to this Starlet, I would have also liked to see a travel lock. I mean, this thing screams, “Take me with you!”
Now we can talk about the most crucial part: The Sensations. While it may look cheap, the sensations are not. The Starlet utilizes Pulse Air Technology that sends pulsing waves through the nozzle, which then delivers clitoral stimulation. I have tried many of these toys in the past and feel the same way I do about them as I do with this one: I love it. I’m a huge, and I mean YUUUGE clitoral stimulation enthusiast, so anything clit-stim related, is up my alley. I always describe the sensations I get from the Pulse Air Technology the same: Vibration paired with the feeling of someone tapping on my clit. It always makes me cum, but it’s not the kind of orgasm you would get with a vibrator or with using your hands. It’s much stronger, deeper, and for me, last longer.
In addition to the strength of the Original Starlet being on par with all the other Womanizers, the sound coming out of it was something else. Compared to the newer version, it is exponentially loud, even when the nozzle is completely covered. And that’s just on the first intensity. The other models that I have tried from this brand produce nowhere near the sound this one makes, which is very odd.
When I first took the Starlet out of the box and took a further look at the nozzle, I thought it was promising, as I like the nozzles that are wider as oppose to the ones that are on the narrower side. I was additionally annoyed with the fact that I couldn’t dial the intensities back the intensities, but I was forgiving because as will round-robin at the highest intensity, so you don’t have to turn it off to back to the first one.
The Womanizer Starlet 2
Now, this is what I’m talking about. This is what the predecessor should have looked like. The Starlet 2 features a sleeker design compared to the Original Starlet that falls in line with the aesthetic of the newer models of Womanizer’s that have been pumped out from the brand. It has some curves to it, it’s more comfortable to hold in the hand because it has a more extended handle. For the most part, I don’t hold my vibrators pressed into my palm with the curvature of it magically contouring to my hand because it doesn’t give me access to the buttons. The longer handle allows me to easily access the buttons without feeling like I’m going to drop it.
I’m a lot more comfortable now with saying this toy costs 80 bucks. While they didn’t make a ton of improvements, nor did they change the concept of the Starlet, I like what they did. That 1-button operation is now a two-button operation, and charging is now done with a USB/via a magnetic connection, while I like it because it’s more in line with what we’re seeing in the sex toy industry. The only caveat to getting a 2-button operation and being able to back and forth between intensities is that the new Starlet doesn’t round-robin like its predecessor when it gets to the higher intensity. A decent trade-off, in my opinion. For the most part, magnetic connecting chargers last longer helps the toy last longer, and a wider majority of toy utilizing magnetic-connected charging is usually completely waterproof. And if you’re someone who’s clumsy, you don’t have to worry about accidentally knocking over your toy and the charger piece getting suck in it. Because that will most definitely void the warranty.
Additionally, I also like the new color options and love that they didn’t bring back that white color. For some reason, the while looks good on the Womanizer Premium, and even the Womanizer Pro (when it was available) looked great in white. It just didn’t work well with the Starlet 1, and I don’t think it would have looked that great with the Starlet 2. The Coral color is like a pinky-orange that almost looks like an orange highlighter-but with some mellowing undertones that make it look nice. The color I have, Sapphire Blue, looks more like a royal blue that deep vibrant blue color, mixed with a deep purple that has some black undertones to it. Both are equally unique.
I find the newer models of Womanizers nozzles that are narrower compared to other models that have been discontinued. Trying not to relish in the past too much, but I will say that the new style of nozzles, including the Starlet 2’s nozzle. For me, it cups my clit completely. Sometimes I move it around, going from side to side on my clit for some indirect stimulation. While I don’t think any design is universal to every single body, I will say this one works nicely for me, and I think it should be wide enough to accommodate most people with clits. I would, however, like for some size options to be made available for those who want a more narrow or wider nozzle.
Without putting the cart before the horse, let’s talk about noise really quick. For one, it was significantly quieter than the Starlet 1. You’re still going to hear it, just not as much. I also find that the sound plays into the sensations. They are a lot softer than those on the Starlet 1. I would compare it to the differences between treble and bass. You get more base in sensation and sound with the Starlet 2 than with the Starlet one, which actually makes the sensations more enjoyable. I would still describe them the same way: Vibrations paired with the sensation of a finger tapping on my clit. But I’m getting softer rumbly vibrations.
I still get that “Movie trailer” type feeling because it still only has 4 levels of intensity and wished that they would have given at least 2 more intensities. Don’t get me wrong, I was satisfied with them, but if you’re someone who already owns a Womanizer with more intensity settings, you might find yourself asking the same question I had at the beginning of this post. If you’re someone completely new to the Womanizer brand or new to the sensation that comes from pulse air technology, then this might be for you.
Final Thoughts
So, where does that leave us? I didn’t think that I would be impressed with the improvements made on the Starlet 2 simply because I didn’t know how well those improvements would translate into a new sex toy with the same concept. However, Womanizer did it right this time, and I feel comfortable giving this my stamp of approval. As previously stated, if your someone who has never tried a Womanizer and don’t know which model to get without breaking the bank, I highly recommend the Starlet 2. The sensations both models is a reason all by itself to pick one up, but the new improvements give it a modern look, and the new features adds further convenience.
